An Update from Niraj Shah on Recent Leadership Changes at Wayfair

Hi everyone,

I hope you are enjoying your start to summer. Today, I wanted to share a few leadership changes that we wanted you to be aware of.

After nearly ten years with us, Bob Sherwin has made the decision to leave Wayfair. Bob was an instrumental part of building and scaling our world-class full-funnel marketing engine, investment philosophy, and team that serves all of our brands and geos, and has been a driver of our growth as we went from from $900 Million in direct revenue since he joined to over $12 Billion - all while helping to build the Wayfair brand into a household name. Bob also took on and helped grow a number of our Commercial offerings, including Consumer Sales, Financing, Home Services, and he led the expansion of our omni-channel presence, from launching our first four Physical Retail stores to testing and innovating across catalog and direct mail as well as all of the digital channels we operate. We are grateful for Bob’s many contributions and wish him all the best in his next endeavors.

With Bob’s transition, we’ve asked Paul Toms to be our new Chief Marketing Officer. Paul has worked in a number of capacities in our Commercial organization, leading pricing, supplier experience, business intelligence, and specialty retail brands over his 15+ year Wayfair career. He ran marketing for Joss & Main and was a leader in the founding of Perigold. Most recently, of course, Paul has been leading our Talent team where he has helped us navigate through a time of great change while keeping a focus on improving our talent processes and outcomes. In his new role, Paul will report to Jon Blotner.

I’m also pleased to share that, with Paul’s move, Ryan Gilchrist will take on the role of Chief People Officer. Since joining Wayfair in 2016, Ryan has served in many leadership roles across the company, including in Category Management, Global Talent Operations and Talent Acquisition. Over the last four years, Ryan has led multiple organizations within our Central Talent organization, which includes Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, Talent Development, Immigration, Mobility, People Analytics, and our Employee Resource Center. He has been a strong, fair, and inclusive leader and partner to his teams and to many of us across the organization and will bring a wealth of expertise and perspective to the role. Ryan will report to Kate Gulliver.

These moves will be effective on July 24th and Bob’s last day with us will be August 11 as he stays on to help with the transition. Please join me in thanking Bob for his years of service and in congratulating Paul and Ryan on their new roles.

– Niraj
